Think You Might Be Experiencing Adrenal Fatigue? Here’s What To Do Right Away…

Do you feel like you haven’t been yourself for a long time? Do you suffer from some scary, yet mysterious, symptoms when you’ve always been relatively healthy otherwise? Symptoms like extreme fatigue and brain fog, sensitivity to lights and sounds, and hypoglycemia? Do you get every cold and flu that goes around and spend all your time feeling drained and worn out?

If you’ve been experiencing any of these issues, it’s likely it may be linked to hormone imbalance or even Adrenal Crisis. Although there are many stages of Adrenal Crisis, it can often go undetected for years, leading many to realize that they are struggling in the later stages, and scrambling to get their life back. If you feel that you may be suffering from Adrenal Crisis, the following is what you can do right away…

1. Contact your primary care physician…

Make an appointment to talk to your doctor about your symptoms as soon as possible. More than likely he or she will want to do some blood work to check hormone levels and rule out any other factors, but be sure to ask for a referral to see an endocrinologist so you can talk to a specialist about your symptoms and perhaps even find the underlying cause of your Adrenal Fatigue.

2. Take drastic measures to reduce your level of stress immediately!

Do whatever it takes to reduce your level of stress right away. When the adrenal glands are overtaxed, your body has very little (if any) threshold for stress. The smallest amount of emotional, physical and even mental stress can have serious negative affects on your health at this point. You are essentially teetering on the verge of a nervous break down, so anything you can do to reduce the amount of stress in your life right away will help you greatly.

Obviously, some of life’s stresses are unavoidable, but look for things you can change, like any obsessive compulsive behaviors, and try to eliminate them one at a time. Are you a chronic hair twirler, like me? You may want to consider a drastically shorter hair style to break the cycle of compulsion, freeing you instantly from that stress inducing pattern. Are you grabbing your phone every 15 minutes to check Facebook? You may want to think about deleting your most frequented social media apps and take a temporary break from all the overstimulation that goes along with it. Even small changes for short periods of time can help you get a handle on your stress levels and drastically improve your symptoms.

3. Make the switch to tea…

That being said, caffeine (especially in large amounts) can have lasting negative effects on your endocrine system, not to mention seriously throw off your circadian rhythm. I completely understand if you are hesitant to kick the joe. For those of us who have been struggling hormonally, coffee literally can be THE only thing keeping us going, making it all the more impossible to envision life without it.

If you feel like you might be in bankruptcy when it comes to your energy levels, it is all the more reason for you to put the mug down and allow your body to get the sleep it so desperately needs. Obviously, if you have developed a dependency due to your excessive lack of energy, removing caffeine will have an immediate effect on your ability to live life as normal, and you may even be feeling that there is no way you can afford to take a break from caffeine. Give yourself time to adjust to the withdrawal of caffeine, take a “stay-cation” at home for a week or so to allow your body to catch up on sleep and try to build back some of your natural energy reserves.

There are many natural and organic caffeine-free teas that not only make a great substitute for that warm morning mug of joe, but the right tea can actually have many benefits for your endocrine system, promoting healthy hormone production, and alleviating many of the symptoms associated with Adrenal Fatigue. I like “Stress Ease” tea, by Natures Tradition, which supports the endocrine system and the body’s response to stress, plus it has a light and pleasant cinnamon flavor.

Taking these seemingly unconnected steps can help you balance your hormone levels and strengthen your Endocrine System. Create a spa-like atmosphere in your home and enter into a season of pampering yourself to encourage healing and relaxation.

For me, I wanted nothing more than to lie in a hospital bed, in the silence of my private sterile room (that’s how bad it got). As much as I wanted to be emitted due to my medical symptoms, there was not enough evidence to support a reason for them to keep me. So, I found myself dreaming of spa retreats, daily massages, and concierge service. I even considered spending a week away in a hotel room just for the peace and the room service (so NOT like me!); but in the end, I was able to create a peaceful healing space in my own home, and get over the guilt about having to ask hubby to prepare my food. I ended up spending the first half of 2018 in my healing space, and even sometimes I still return every once in a while when I feel I need to.

Try to think outside the box and make accommodations to do whatever your body is telling you. Your body will thank you for it!

Happy Healing!
